Press Release: Liberty Counsel Action Joins Coalition To Uphold GOP Platform

Jul 3, 2024

ORLANDO, FL — Liberty Counsel Action (LCA) joins with scores of other conservative advocacy groups in calling on the delegates of the 2024 Republican National Convention to preserve and uphold the GOP’s longstanding support for pro-life, pro-family, and pro-Israel policies.  To protect the traditional values of the Republican Party platform, LCA has joined the Platform Integrity Project seeking to work with the Trump Campaign and the RNC for an open and transparent process leading up to the convention.

Beginning Sunday, July 7, GOP delegates will begin meeting in Milwaukee to finalize the party’s platform and priorities ahead of the Republican National Committee (RNC) Convention July 15-18, 2024. In 2020, President Donald Trump and the RNC kept the platform unchanged from the one used in 2016. However, with the Trump campaign planning to “streamline” and pare down the platform this year, there is growing concern from insider sources that the party will soften its official stances on abortion and strong support for the nation of Israel. While the committee meetings where the platform policies are debated are usually open to the public, next week they will be held behind closed doors and without any press.

The Platform Integrity Project will implore and empower people to engage with the delegates and officials meeting next week to uphold and not water down conservative ideals. The coalition will also, for the first time, track and score individual votes of the platform delegates to inform conservative citizens on their actions. Additionally, the coalition will advocate that the GOP platform communicate clear and hopeful messages on the issues of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. On its website, the Platform Integrity Project encourages Americans to sign up to pray for their delegates when they meet next week and to receive information on how to engage and encourage the delegates.

“America is an unprecedented place of moral and cultural confusion and is in dire need of leadership and moral clarity,” stated Family Research Council Action Chairman Tony Perkins, who will be a delegate at the convention from Louisiana. “The message to Platform Committee delegates is clear: preserve life and family values in the Republican Party platform so that social conservatives can continue to find a home in the GOP.”

The Platform Integrity Project’s partnering organizations include: FRC Action, WallBuilders, Faith Wins, American Principles Project, Family Policy Alliance, AFA Action, Pro-Family Legislative Network, The Family Foundation of Kentucky, Center for Arizona Policy Action, Frontline Policy Action, Maryland Family Action, Human Coalition Action, Palmetto Family Council, and the North Carolina Values Coalition.

Liberty Counsel Action President John Stemberger said, “Any attempt to weaken the GOP platform is a big mistake. It is bad principle, bad policy, and bad politics. If the Republican Party waters down the most important moral, social and human rights issues of our day, then, they will undoubtedly lose untold thousands of voters who could otherwise vote for the Republican candidate. A change like this would cause great division in the party and spawn the creation of a significant third party in the future fracturing the Republican base. We as a nation need to contend for our traditional party platform or our cherished values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness will keep slipping from our hands.”

“We encourage state delegates to keep the current GOP platform from 2016,” said Stemberger.
