URGENT: Key State Battles

Jun 30, 2022

About half the states are moving to ban abortions or significantly limit them. Following the historic Dobbs decision on June 24, a firestorm of legislative and legal battles have erupted in Congress and in the states.

Already three states have temporary restraining orders blocking abortion restrictions from going into effect (Louisiana, Texas and Utah). Additionally, Kentucky’s law has a restraining order pending before a judge.

As I said earlier this week, the battle for life has exponentially intensified. It is raging across the nation, and we need your voice to be heard in the states and in Congress. The message to the states and Congress is the same—PROTECT LIFE AND END ABORTION! There is no time to waste. Make your voice heard today. Fax as many members of Congress and governors as you can to Protect Life and End Abortion! —Mat

A “trigger bill” in Kentucky bans abortions after six weeks except to save the life of the mother or to prevent a disabling injury. Abortionists can be punished with up to five years in prison for killing an unborn child. This bill was passed in 2019 and went into effect when Roe v. Wade was overturned.

But that is just the beginning of the battle. Abortion clinics sued to block the law. The pressure is now on the state elected officials to protect life and end abortion. Idaho and Mississippi are facing similar lawsuits.

About half the states have “trigger laws” or pre-Roe laws that became effective after June 24, when the masterfully written Dobbs opinion overturned Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

The battle for life has intensified in all 50 states at the same time. The governors and pro-life-leaning state officials must hear from you now.

At the same time there are three live abortion bills in the U.S. Senate that could be brought to the floor any minute and passed either with a voice vote or through destroying the 60-vote filibuster rule. In the Senate, there are up to 53 pro-abortion votes. The filibuster is the only thing stopping the Senate from imposing abortion on the states.

Our state and federal leaders are under intense pressure to cave to a massively well-funded abortion lobby. These state and federal leaders are also being physically threatened by violent abortion groups. Our elected officials need to hear from you to urge them to move forward and fight to protect life and end abortion. In the wake of this incredible Supreme Court decision, we cannot let this opportunity go to waste.

Act now to send faxes to as many federal and state leaders as possible to urge them to Protect Life and End Abortion.

Louisiana, Utah and Texas were also dragged into court, and judges temporarily blocked their abortion bans from taking effect.

Louisiana’s state court was the first in the nation to block a trigger law Monday when abortion providers argued the bans were unlawfully vague. A hearing in the case is set for July 8. Also on Monday, a Utah judge temporarily delayed the state from enforcing its abortion ban for 14 days when another hearing is set to convene.

Texas is the third state where a judge has issued a temporary restraining order that blocks the state’s pre-Roe abortion ban. Abortions in Texas are already banned after six weeks’ gestation. A separate “trigger law” will go into effect in the state in a few weeks.

In addition, the law in Florida that goes into effect July 1 prohibits abortions after 15 weeks, with exceptions only for the life or injury of the mother or fatal conditions in the child. The ACLU has filed suit, but this case provides a good opportunity to overturn a terrible 1989 decision of the Florida Supreme Court that invented a “right” to abortion. Florida could mirror the Dobbs decision on the state level now that Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed three constitutionalist Justices to the Florida Supreme Court.

Each of our legislators and governors are watching what is playing out now in these states and in the courts. Some are making up their minds in light of upcoming elections. And many politicians need encouragement to fight.

In a midterm election year, some members of Congress are more willing to listen to the voice of the people. The same is true in the states. Your faxes put these legislators and governors on notice that we care about children and urge them to act immediately to protect their lives.

We are witnessing a clash of good versus evil like we’ve never seen in America. Planned Parenthood has been receiving huge donations. And our federal government is throwing its full weight behind pushing these deadly abortion mandates. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has created a “reproductive rights” government website! This is evil but not unexpected for this administration.

Wisconsin’s Democrat attorney general has threatened to sue his own state’s abortion restrictions. And states like California and Colorado are looking to legalize infanticide and permit the killing of children even after they’re born!

The California bill erases the requirement for a coroner to investigate a newborn’s death. At the same time, if a coroner does investigate and finds a suspicious cause of death, this bill will “prohibit using the coroner’s statements … to establish, bring, or support a criminal prosecution or civil cause of damages against any person.”

So, IF a California coroner decided to investigate and IF the coroner found evidence of the murder of a baby, this bill would prevent the prosecution from using this evidence.

This leaves helpless children hopelessly blocked from ever getting justice.

But God does not need millions of dollars to accomplish His will. He just needs a few faithful men and women who are willing to stand in the gap for a nation broken by sin and evil and urge others to stand with them for life.

Do you know where your legislators stand? This is an issue of life or death. I hope you will make your voice heard in their local and national offices.

We must fight for these precious children. Send faxes right away to urge governors and federal legislators to fight for life and give these children the chance to grow up, laugh, play and learn.
