More Widespread Than You Think

Aug 30, 2022

She was his 6th wife. She was 17; he was 49. And according to her religion, the only way she would get to heaven was to be a wife with at least three women in a polygamous marriage to one man.

I’ll share Mary Mackert’s story below, which includes growing up in a polygamist family and exactly why her husband later threatened to cut her throat and disembowel her …

Polygamy is something that is practiced off the books right now for tens of thousands of Americans. Children raised essentially without a father (or at least one that didn’t even know their name) are especially susceptible to pedophiles. And the cycle of abuse continues ...

In Congress, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is working hard to slip through a bill with a hidden loophole to LEGALIZE these abusive types of “marriage.”

The Senate is returning from break and will take up the “Respect for Marriage Act” (HR 8404) that will impose same-sex marriage on the states, and nationalize child bride marriages, and even polygamy. Send your urgent faxes to the Senate to stop HR 8404. — Mat

In some polygamous communities, little girls are raised to believe that they will be one wife among many to one man. At the young age of 14- to 17-years-old, they are married off.

With scant education, no job and no source of income, these girls are often trapped in abusive relationships with a much older man.

For 17-year-old Mary, “Every day of my life was a competition for his resources,” she states. “There was a lot of back-stabbing and scratching and clawing — emotionally and verbally, not physically.”

Finally, Mary had had enough. She demanded her own home for her kids away from the chaos. Her husband refused. She walked out “to go get a home of my own for me and my children.” Her husband caught her and locked Mary in her room for a day and a half. He then offered her redemption through what is called a “blood atonement.”

This sect falsely believes some sins are so great that the blood of Jesus cannot cover them and that the only way for a person to get into heaven is to willingly give their own blood by having an authority figure slit their throat from ear to ear and then disembowel them.

Her crime was disobeying her husband and her attempt to leave the marriage. When Mary refused to request blood atonement, in frustration her husband took her to their cult leader, “Uncle” Rulon Jeffs, who, when he died in 2002 at the age of 92, had 60 to 65 wives. When Jeffs asked her a question, her husband answered for her … She had even lost her voice.

Mary got back in the car to return home. “I started shaking so bad I couldn’t hold anything in my hands. I was just trembling.” She told her husband, “You let me out of this car or I’m going to jump.” She escaped with nothing but a 20-dollar bill she hid in her shoe.

While Mary’s story is bizarre and might make you think this is an isolated case, it’s not. Polygamy is more common than you might think. There are an estimated 50,000-100,000 polygamous families in the U.S., and the popularity of polygamy is growing. TLC ran the popular ongoing TV series Sister Wives about a family that is suffering emotional heartbreak and divorce as a result of their polygamous lifestyle.

Polygamy is illegal. It is likely more widespread than the estimates indicate. If the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” becomes law, it has a hidden loophole that will open the door to legalize polygamy.

This bill will further trap people like Mary under even greater bondage!

I need your help to hold senators accountable and stop HR 8404. Rush urgent faxes to the Senate against HR 8404.

The bill applies to “marriage between 2 individuals.” The number should be at least written out as “two” or in more formal legislation as both, “two (2).” And the word “only” is not in the text—“only between” two people.

The bill clearly overrides state marriage laws, including age limits, by allowing one state to set marriage law for the nation. Under HR 8404, a man can deceptively marry women in more than one state, and then use the bill to require one state to recognize the other marriage, and thus override state and federal polygamy laws.

Some senators simply view this bill as codifying same-sex marriage, which is bad enough. However, HR 8404, has many far-reaching implications, including pedophile marriage, same-sex, child-bride, incest and any other perversion of marriage.

Your faxes and petitions along with our personal contact are already having an impact. We have a short window. The Senate could vote on this as early as Sept 6, 2022. Tell as many senators as you can to block this bill! Click here to send your faxes now.

Even if a girl were to try to somehow escape this culture of polygamy, the shame for doing so is crushing. In addition to some cults where polygamy is practiced, it is also growing among certain Muslim communities with multiple legal and ceremonial marriages, and among nonreligious groups.

It is disturbing, to say the least. If the Senate passes the “Respect for Marriage Act” (HR 8404), it will expand this abuse nationally. Rush urgent faxes to the Senate to stop HR 8404. The time is short. Tell as many senators as you can to stop this bill!

A full vote is coming soon, and we expect it to be very close.
