Advancing Life and Liberty Through Action

Why This Now

Jul 6, 2023

The so-called “Equality Act” is the most serious threat to our freedom ever introduced in Congress. HR 15 will mandate the celebration of LGBT & Q behaviors and abortion, and it will BAN LIFESAVING COUNSELING FOR ALL AGES.

Having just come through the most aggressive month of June I can remember for so-called “pride” and “drag queens,” 212 Democrats want to expand this nonsense! They are losing in the courts and now want to push this garbage through Congress. And even worse, they want to ban counseling for those struggling with unwanted stressors.

Send urgent faxes to tell Congress to VOTE NO on the "EQUALITY ACT.” —Mat

I’ll let one of our clients tell her own story:

“I am a former lesbian who went through SOCE [sexual orientation change efforts] counseling, and my life is proof that SOCE counseling can and does work for individuals struggling with unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or identity. … I was sexually abused as a child and experienced tremendous trauma from that abuse and from the dysfunctional family.

“At the tender age of 16, I was already involved in a same-sex relationship. … My therapist was adamant that I was a lesbian, that I was born a lesbian, that I would always be a lesbian and that I should just accept and embrace it because there was nothing that I could do about it.

“When I was 24, the woman who was my girlfriend at the time told me that she had heard of this thing called SOCE counseling and that she wanted to start trying it. This was the first time in my life that I had ever heard anyone even mention that change was possible. … After hearing from my former lover, of all people, I knew that change was possible and wanted to see if I could succeed in changing.

“I have been changed and reformed from that lifestyle for 23 years now.”

This bill turns people seeking help and those able to provide lifesaving hope into lawbreakers. It even prevents them from sharing their own experiences of change just by classifying that personal testimony as “hate speech" and discrimination.

Since California passed the first law in 2012 banning any counsel for minors seeking to change or overcome their unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, or gender confusion, I have fought in the courts to keep the government out of the counseling room.

One young man testified under oath about his own struggle:

“When I was 5 years old, I was sexually molested by a 16-year-old high school boy who was also my neighbor. … I had traumatic experiences in perceiving and feeling that I was not really a male child. ...

“I found myself sexually attracted to men because of my earlier abuse. … For all these years, I carried a feeling of immense and crushing shame for my same-sex attractions.”

He said he “became clinically depressed twice, dealt with tremendous anxiety, experienced obsessive-compulsive disorder and knew in my heart that I was very confused about my sexual orientation and gender identity. In the latter years of this 20-year period, I found a course of treatment that truly helped me resolve the issues I had been experiencing.”

But the counseling that saved this man’s life will be banned by the Equality Act.

Counseling is a lot like a GPS map system. You tell the counselor where you want to go, and the counselor helps you reach that destination. But the Equality Act attempts to ban one viewpoint of counseling — the viewpoint that people do not have to be chained to their unwanted desires, behaviors, or confusion. In fact, it will mandate that any counsel be only that which promotes LGBT and Q.

Years of study show that 85% of young people who experience gender confusion resolve naturally without any intervention at all. They simply grow out of it. But the dictatorial Equality Act seeks to cement gender confusion, and no one — not even the person seeking counsel — can object.

My heart breaks to think this lifesaving counsel could be banned — for everyone. Our team is busier than ever working to preserve religious freedom and the sanctity of human life.
