WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 11, 2023, Joe Biden announced that $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds would be released and distributed by Qatar. This announcement was immediately criticized. That criticism grew louder following the horrific slaughter of innocent people by Hamas on October 7. There are numerous reports the Biden administration has quietly announced an agreement with Qatar to pause the distribution of the $6 billion in funds released to Iran for a prisoner swap in the wake of Iran-funded Hamas terrorists committing the largest slaughter of Jews in a single day since the Holocaust. However, reports are coming from Qatar that they plan to execute the deal.

Liberty Counsel Action opposed the unfreezing of the funds and warned that Iran is known to be a worldwide sponsor of terror. Liberty Counsel Action has also called on Congress to investigate a reported Iranian spy ring in the Pentagon that is linked to the billions released to Iran and to impose sanctions on Iran for its role in funding Hamas and Hezbollah.

Twenty Republican senators led by Sen. Marsha Blackburn have now sent a letter calling on the Biden administration to restrict Iranian access to the $6 billion in funds, and ensure Iran never receives the funds. Also included is a demand for the U.S. to impose the “strictest sanctions admissible” on Iran. “To stand by and allow Iran access to these funds as Hamas infiltrates Israel and murders, rapes, and mutilates countless Israelis is unconscionable,” the senators wrote in the letter.

Liberty Counsel Action Chairman Mat Staver said, “I call on the White House to freeze funds to Iran and impose punitive sanctions on the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. I call upon Congress to cut off this terrorist-exporting state from receiving a single dollar to finance terror in Israel and around the world. Iran should be sanctioned for these unspeakable acts of terror. Iran’s goal does not end with Israel. Iran wants to export its terror and dominate every nation.”

On Thursday, 100 House Republicans, led by Rep. August Pfluger, introduced legislation to refreeze the funds the U.S. made available to Iran. Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) stated: “This $6 billion will be used to backfill the money that Iran is paying to Hamas if we don’t act. The Administration’s supposed ‘quiet understanding’ with Qatar, also a host country of Hamas, is a disaster waiting to happen. Since the Administration refuses to permanently freeze the funds, Congress will.”

Earlier, on the anniversary of 9/11 this year, the news hit that the Biden administration would unfreeze $6 billion as part of a prisoner swap, making the funds available to Iran, the world’s largest state sponsor of terror. The funds are currently in accounts in Qatar. Whether this money is used directly on terror or frees up other Iranian funds, the bottom line is that this is blood money that will result in the loss of many lives like what we have tragically witnessed in Israel.
