Advancing Life and Liberty Through Action
May 22, 2025
Just before 7:00 this morning, the House passed the budget bill with a 10-year ban on funding Big Abortion, 215-214, with one member voting present. Now this bill heads to the Senate.
This is a huge victory. We must keep up the intensity to pass this bill in the Senate. This battle had been lost previously in the Senate or in reconciliation afterward. The Senate has strong advocates for Planned Parenthood.
Much of the debate up to this point focused on budget spending and whether Congress will appropriate hundreds of millions of dollars to fund Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion — under the euphemism of “health care.”
The Senate needs to hear from you right now. They need to know if you care about defunding Big Abortion providers — or not. Is this the hill we want them to die on — or will they succumb to the pressure and allow babies to die? Urge Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion now!
Having watched the anger directed at Republican committee members by Democrats, it is hard to communicate the level of pressure these legislators are under — from all sides.
While most Americans were asleep, at 1 a.m. yesterday, the U.S. House Rules Committee convened a hearing, working tirelessly to finish negotiations on amendments to the upcoming budget bill. This hearing continued for more than 21 hours.
The battle for life was front and center in this heated debate. The committee members were physically exhausted after Democrats harangued them nonstop.
High-ranking Democrats, who were not on the committee, were paraded through the committee hearing one by one to propose amendments to the funding bill. Some of these members included Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat House Whip Katherine Clark, even former Speaker Nancy Pelosi — and a long list of others. One of the top issues Democrats pressed for hours was increasing welfare with no work requirements — and continued funding for Planned Parenthood.
Minority Leader Jeffries claimed that this was the “largest cut to health care in American history.” Newsflash — killing children is not “health care.”
Democrate Whip Clark bemoaned declining birth rates, just moments after offering an amendment to continue federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
Democrats were calling Republicans “un-American” for suggesting that working families should keep more of the money they earn. Some even said Republicans would “kill people” if they stripped funding from abortion providers. Some even quoted Scripture to press for abortion funding. What blasphemy!
This choice is before us right now and the Senate urgently needs to hear from you.
Liberty Counsel Action staff were listening live as the parade of Democrats unfolded. Our D.C. team is working directly with members of the House and Senate. Around 500 amendments were introduced to wear down lawmakers and kill the bill.
We are working with legislators to provide up-to-the-minute support.
We, too, are burning the midnight oil to help shape what could be one of the most consequential spending bills that could finally defund Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion.
But we can’t do this work without you. We need your prayers and financial support.
Your support helps us:
Please chip in a generous gift to help us defund Big Abortion and defend the unborn now! Please consider sending a generous gift right now to help Liberty Counsel Action stay fully engaged in this battle for life.
Time is short. We must act swiftly — and we need your help to keep the pressure on.
