Why This Assassin Received a Light Sentence

Dec 8, 2025

He attempted to assassinate a Supreme Court Justice

He arrived with a crowbar, a pistol, ammunition, tactical gear ... and he had every intention of assassinating of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

In the darkness outside Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home, at 1:38 a.m. on June 8, 2022, Nicholas Roske admitted he had come to kill a Justice. His motives were political. He wanted to “change the composition of the Court” because of the impending Dobbs abortion decision that was later released on June 24. This was an attack on a constitutional republic governed by law.

Now Nicholas claims to be "Sophie" and wants to “identify” as a “woman.” The judge then discarded the 30-years-to-life sentence the prosecution asked for and gave this biological male just eight years in a women’s facility because he is “transgender.” Now, if the Equality Act is passed, it would take this injustice to a whole new level.

This special treatment would become commonplace. And the Equality Act would create a protected, privileged LGBTQ class. This is why we must urge Congress to oppose the Equality Act (HR 15).

This potential assassin was not just targeting one Justice. He planned to kill three Justices because he was enraged by the pending decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The prosecution described it as "extensive premeditation."

Nicholas “researched; planned; procured the tools for the planned killings; traveled across the entirety of the country with those tools, including a gun; and attempted to delete online evidence of motive and intent.” He practiced at the gun range and then traveled thousands of miles from California with all the deadly tools in his suitcase. His objective was “to target and kill judges to seek to alter a court's ruling” and this “is an abhorrent form of terrorism and strikes at the core of the United States Constitution and our prescribed system of government," the prosecution argued.

This is a threat to the entire judicial system. If political violence becomes a tool to reshape the Court, every constitutional protection will collapse.

But the federal judge overseeing the case reduced the sentence in part because Roske identifies as “transgender.” In open court, the judge stated, “I take into consideration the conditions of pre-trial confinement and the fact that she is a transgender woman.” She? I am at a loss for words!

And for that reason, the judge removed 22 years from the sentence.

This is the very definition of a double standard. A biological male who traveled across the country to commit political murder can now claim “transgender” status and receive preferential treatment — even when the integrity of the highest Court in our nation was targeted.

But the Equality Act would make this much worse. It would give special protected status to LGBTQ. It would silence any dissent.

Under the Equality Act, prosecutors would be forced to bend the arch of justice. And ordinary Americans would be silenced — or crushed. Urge Congress to reject the Equality Act.

And now Congress wants to make this double standard permanent through the disastrous Equality Act.

This bill would take the kind of privilege we just witnessed in federal court and impose it nationwide. Any perceived slight — any disagreement, hesitation, or refusal to affirm LGBTQ ideology — could drag you into court, into investigations, or into crushing civil penalties. Schools, churches, ministries, parents, charities, and employers would become targets.

The Equality Act doesn’t create “equality.” It creates a state-protected class with extraordinary legal power to punish dissent.

It rewrites civil-rights law to elevate LGBTQ identity above religious liberty, parental rights, women’s privacy, and basic constitutional freedom. It unleashes a new ruling class to which the rest of America must bow.

We cannot allow this bill to become law. We cannot remain silent.
