We can win this critical battle
Over the weekend, Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) held a political rally in which he publicized that attendees must present a photo ID. Yet he and some other Democrats are fighting against the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act).
The SAVE Act is a commonsense bill that requires proof of citizenship to register and a photo ID to vote, and limits mail-in ballots to only illness, disability, travel, and those in the military.
Democrats are stonewalling the SAVE Act vote. The Senate has been sitting on this bill (S 128) for 10 months! It is time to pass the SAVE Act. The clock is ticking. If the Senate fails, the damage from the next election could last for generations.
This is a critical issue that we cannot allow to stall ahead of the midterm elections. Flood the Senate with your faxes to protect the privilege to lead our nation in a secure election.
The SAVE Act does one thing: It ensures only U.S. citizens vote in elections. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Sen. Ossoff has openly opposed this bill. He claims the SAVE Act “is a nakedly partisan, totally unworkable, bad-faith bill cynically intended to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters.”
His claim collapses under even mild scrutiny.
Sen. Ossoff’s hypocrisy is on full display between what he says about the SAVE Act and what he does at his political rallies. Did Sen. Ossoff not want minorities to attend his rally so he intentionally made it difficult for them to attend — or does he not believe his own talking points on the SAVE Act? I think the answer is obvious. And right now, this same senator sits on the Senate committee of jurisdiction, holding the SAVE Act in his hands.
Even CNN is pushing back on these Democrats. During an appearance of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the CNN interviewer asked why he is fighting against a photo ID to vote since polls show Americans support voter ID?
In fact, 83% of Americans want a photo ID requirement to vote. Shifty Schiff pivoted to passports. But the CNN reporter came right back: “But I was asking you a different question: photo ID … one recent Pew poll, 83% of adults support requiring photo ID to vote; 71% of Democrats favor requiring photo ID. Is that something that you can support? And if not, why?” Schiff immediately went back to the thin claim that it is “disenfranchising” voters.
If CNN points out the flawed arguments against photo IDs to vote, then we have a chance of getting this bill passed — but not if the American people are silent.
The SAVE Act has already passed the House and is waiting on Republican leadership in the Senate. Urge every senator to support and pass the SAVE Act immediately.
The argument that voter ID is racist is not supported by 83% of Americans. When ordinary Americans are asked — especially African Americans — the response is often disbelief. People carry ID to drive, work, travel, pick up prescriptions, enter buildings, and yes, attend political events.
Voter ID is not racist. Rather, assuming certain minorities are incapable of getting a photo ID to vote is racist.
STOP playing the racist card! Pass voter ID. Pass the SAVE Act.
Liberty Counsel Action is fighting back — while there is still time. Our team is mobilizing support for the SAVE Act and meeting with members of Congress. Every fax matters. Every voice counts. Silence is surrender.
But this fight also requires resources. If you believe America deserves secure elections, please stand with Liberty Counsel Action today. Make a single gift — or better yet, become a recurring donor — so we can stay on the front lines, hour by hour, until this vote is decided.
The SAVE Act can pass — or fail — based on what happens next. Do not assume someone else will act. You are the firewall.
