Even a Doctor Mom Couldn’t Stop This

How many times have parents wished that they were doctors to help their child? For this family, even that didn’t help. Amanda was a high school varsity athlete — confident, strong, smiling. But after her Gardasil shot, she had a strange pain at the injection site. It spread through her arm, then down her legs. The pain didn't go away — it continued to spread. Amanda’s father is also a doctor, a cardiologist who graduated with honors, and within a year of finishing his residency, he became the supervising physician-in-charge of emergency services. No one could label these parents “anti-science,” “uneducated,” or “stupid.” They believed in the system and didn’t think twice about Gardasil.

They watched helplessly as Amanda — once vibrant and active — became weak, isolated, and helpless.
