Congress is in the midst of a huge budget battle that will determine an up or down vote on abortion and more

On May 4, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committees released the text of a nearly 72 billion-dollar reconciliation bill. Reconciliation allows bills to pass the Senate with a simple majority instead of the 60 votes usually required.

The Senate will then “mark up” the bills the week of May 19. Once passed, the bill will go to the House for consideration. Congressional Republicans are aiming to enact a final reconciliation bill by June 1.

So the battle is really heating up now as the final votes are coming soon. The moratorium restricting Medicaid funding to go to abortion providers will expire July 4 unless Congress acts again.
