LA Election is Why Congress Must Act Now

Jun 10, 2026

Congress must hear from you

The California mayor race is a reminder of why we need to secure the integrity of the election process. With Republican Spencer Pratt in position to secure a runoff vote, the third-place candidate, Nithya Raman, has jumped ahead of Pratt as the mail-in ballots are being counted.

Post-election mail-in ballots nearly doubled the percentage of ballots she was getting compared to before election night. That is highly suspicious.

This will not get better until we make it better. Make your voice heard in Congress to pass the SAVE America Act to protect our elections.

Thus far, the U.S. Senate has failed to pass what President Trump is calling one of the most important bills in Congress: the SAVE America Act. However, when Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) was fighting for political survival, Senator John Thune (R-SD) spent more than 120 million dollars on a failed campaign.

Imagine what could have happened if Thune had spent that 120 million dollars to push the SAVE America Act and demand photo ID to vote?

Even House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is frustrated with the lack of effort to pass the SAVE America Act in the Senate. The U.S. House already passed it twice, and Thune hasn’t even bothered to put it on the schedule!

We need to light a fire under Sen. John Thune and those legislators slow-walking this bill in the Senate. Send your urgent faxes NOW to demand a vote on this bill and urge support from both parties.

Here is what makes this so outrageous: Voter ID is not fringe, radical, or even controversial. It is not even partisan for most Democrat voters. Pew Research Center found that 83% of American adults favor requiring voters to show government-issued photo ID to vote, including 95% of Republicans and 71% of Democrats.

On this issue, the Democrat base is more conservative than John Thune’s Senate calendar. The American people are not confused; they are asking for the most basic safeguard imaginable: Prove you are who you say you are, prove you are legally eligible, then vote.

This is not voter suppression. It is election protection.

We have MILLIONS of noncitizens in America right now ... and no foolproof way to keep them from voting.

You need ID to drive, board a plane, open a bank account, and access countless government services. But somehow, the moment we ask for proof before someone helps decide the future of the United States of America, Washington suddenly discovers “concerns.”

The concern is not that Americans will be asked to prove eligibility. The concern is that noncitizens could be registered, ballots could be cast unlawfully, and Congress could do nothing while the clock runs out.

That is why we need you to urgently fax Congress to demand a vote on this bill. We need to use every ounce of effort to push Congress to pass the SAVE America Act.

Two legislators have both reported that Thune told them he had no intention of bringing the SAVE America Act to the Senate floor for a vote. Both Rep. Anna Paulina Luna and Rep. Tim Burchett shared this with reporters. Sen. Mike Lee blasted Senate leadership, asking why Senate Republicans would side with the Swamp over the American people when Americans want the SAVE America Act.

That is the question every voter should be asking John Thune right now. Why can the Senate establishment spend massive sums trying to rescue John Cornyn, but not spend political capital to rescue election integrity?

Why can Senate leadership fight for what incumbents want in an election — but not fight for what citizens want in our elections?

Why can Washington move fast for itself, then slow-walk for the American people? We can no longer tolerate refusing to schedule the Save America Act for a vote so Americans can see who is with them or who stands against what we want.

Leadership is not a title for counting votes and shrugging. Leadership should mean advocating and fighting for what the American people want. Even if that means making senators take a public stand and telling Democrats: If you want to block proof of citizenship and voter ID, then stand on the Senate floor and explain it to the American people.

This is where we need you! A fax campaign puts pressure where it belongs — directly in the offices of the senators who can act.

John Thune and Congress need to hear from YOU if you are done watching Washington protect itself better than it protects us — all while our elections remain exposed. He needs to hear that the SAVE America Act must not be buried, delayed, traded away, or sacrificed to Senate procedure.

Send your faxes demanding Congress pass the SAVE Act.

This is not complicated: Only citizens should vote in American elections.

But this is where we need your help. Liberty Counsel Action is working on Capitol Hill every day to educate and communicate with your legislators in person and in meetings and groups.
